Do you want to be successful in business? Do you want to be successful in life? Is there a secret to success? What if I said there was, but it was not a secret?
Achieving SuccessDocument
To get any thing done, you need the volition to start and the discipline to follow through. This means that you have made a choice to move forward, and all you need to succeed is the (self) discipline to follow through to reach your goal.
This is easy, but not simple. I have counseled several female clients who had worked for someone else, then taken their “technical” skills and tried to make a business of their own, using their skills.
One said to me outright that she did not realize the complexity of business. It was only complex to her because all the non-technical aspects were new to her.
Another mystery is that women seem loath to promote their business. They seem to feel that it is obvious what they do and how others can benefit from it. Get real!
When they were dating, did they just play passive or did they promote themselves? I would suggest that they carefully chose what they were going to wear, what shoes looked best, what makeup highlighted their best attributes, did their hair and nails, put on their most attracting perfume, and did everything they could to make a good impression.
Business is just the same. No one is so intuitive that they are mind readers. No one, not ever Superman, could read anyone’s mind. Just because a friend or family member was generous enough to buy from you, does not make a sustainable business. Just because your past employer made foolish mistakes, does not mean that you are condemned to repeat them.
If you are traveling down the road to success, just because the road is bumpy does not mean you should stop or turn back. Is everything always smooth in your daily life, or are there little complications that crop up? Guess what? Business and life are a reflection of each other, and stuff happens.
The question becomes, do you just throw in the towel at the first challenge, or do you face it head on and prevail?
Are you proud of what you do and what you offer? If so, doesn’t it make sense to let the world know of your wonderfulness? No, self promotion is not cheesy. If done properly, it can be in good taste. No, people do not think less of professionals advertising their service. No, I can’t avail myself of anyone’s offering if I do not know they exist. I cannot wait forever for the gossip tree to reach me and let me know of what is out there.
You cannot succeed if you do not do what is needed to succeed. The only thing that will prevent you from moving forward is your stinking thinking. Ok, so I just insulted you, right? No, it is a statement of fact. Only you can prevent forest fires, and only you can think like a winner. If you have a give-up or losers mentality, then that is what will happen.
If you think you can succeed, you are right. You will marshal all your resources and move forward to success. If you do not think you can succeed, you are still right. You will find a way to get in your way to success.
All your dreams, all your credentials, all your time and effort will be thrown away if you do not use them for achieving success. The choice is your. You can win or lose.
If you live where you are free to choose, you can decide to win or lose. Change your attitude, change your life. Success is yours for the asking.
